You could call Rob Balasabas a master of video… calling him anything less would be doing him a disservice. As Kately describes him, he’s an octopus of sorts. He’s everywhere, doing just about everything at once, it seems. He has been able to capture a wide audience through video, mainly via his Youtube channel with over 1 thousand subscribers. His views rack up to be over 30,000 on his personal channel alone.
He has helped many people realize the power that video holds. Youtube is no longer just for cute cat videos like it was 10 years ago. Now, brands are able to reach a massive audience from just posting short informational videos. It’s a whole new world! *cue The Little Mermaid music*
One of the most compelling aspects of using video to convey something to your audience is their ability to share it to others. People tend to share videos more than blogs or articles! Not great news for those of us sitting here currently writing this blog post… maybe share this one to go against that fact? Pretty please? I’ll be your best frieeeend?
Anyways, the sharability of flashy fun videos is undeniable. Rob tells us, “92% of people on mobile, on social, tend to share videos. You know, versus what they’re sharing as far as maybe a blog post or something, it just doesn’t catch your attention.”
People are more inclined to share fun or eye catching videos with their friends, even if the core message is more on the informational side.
Since video like this is still a relatively new medium, we can recognize how quickly things change. 10 years ago, thinking of trying to amass a large following on Youtube seemed ridiculous and unrealistic. In today’s world we now see the massive numbers of views that surround video and are starting to see the full scope of how big it is.
But now with short form videos like Vine and Tik Tok, our attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, and with ALL the videos out there, you really have to stand out in order to grab the attention and make people want to listen. This is what Rob calls “scroll stoppers”.
“So having a video that captivates, basically, scroll stoppers. So if people are scrolling, how do you stop them from scrolling?”
At this point, you really have to do everything you possibly can to get people to stop scrolling and pay attention to you! This could include flashy graphics, captioning the videos, or having interesting illustration or animation.
So now that we know the importance of being FUN and FLASHY and IN YOUR FACE! (did I do it right?) We have to be realistic, how are we going to convey our brand mission or our actual information to the audience we captivate?
Rob outlines this perfectly by saying, “”The saying is, put the WOW on social but the HOW inside the course”.
Once people are intrigued based on your video, they’re more likely to check out what you’re all about.
The main thing people always have to focus on when making video content is the viewer. The value the video will offer to the viewer is everything. Before posting a video, you have to ask yourself, “If I was the viewer of this video, would I get something out of it?”
If the answer is yes, go get em tiger! Take the video world by storm. And you can take the first step to achieving greatness by listening everything else he had to say on his episode of Lately Live here https://bit.ly/2WN7KbY
